LEADERSHIP VITALS

This is to heartily welcome all the readers to the LEADERSHIP VITALS Blog! I truly appreciate the time you are spending reading the blog. My prayer and hope is that the contents of this blog be of help to you in becoming a better leader.

I created this blog with the intent of putting the pulse on all things leadership. One of the things you can expect in this blog is to read on very practical things that relate to leadership. My mentor John C. Maxwell says that

Everything rises and falls on leadership

and I couldn’t agree more.

I started my leadership journey way back in the insurance industry. It was there where I got introduced to the concept of a team when our company underwent a team building program. I was hooked! I enjoyed it so much that I started cascading it down to the insurance underwriters who were under my care as I really saw the connection between leadership and the team.

Eventually, this passion birthed my company Genesis1 in 2005. It was my dream to expand my scope of influence to more than the confines of the organization I was currently in. And so taking a bold leap of faith, Genesis1 was established with nothing more than an abstract idea and a lot of faith in God that this is what I was destined to do in my life.

Utilizing Adventure Learning Programs, we were able to build a client base that kept coming back to us as our focus was a long-term partnership with them. As the business grew, so did our scope. It wasn’t enough to rely on what we already knew and, deep down inside, I knew that I had to stretch some more – I had to step out of my comfort zone in order to reach new territories I’ve never been to before. As such, I eventually became connected with the John Maxwell Team, an organization of over 5,000 coaches spread around the world in over 130 countries. Currently, I am serving as a member of the President’s Advisory Council of the John Maxwell Team.

The leadership journey isn’t always a steady climb. It is more like a rollercoaster ride with many sharp turns and sudden drops rather than constant, easy climbs. In fact, many of the contents found in this blog would have been personally experienced by me at one point in time or the other. You might be amazed how many times I have experienced failures in order to reap the relative success I have now (a concept my mentor calls failing forward). This is just the way it is because leadership is both a science and an art, and, thus, there really isn’t a singular approach to leadership success.

One thing I do know for sure is that leadership principles (Laws, as my mentor would term them) are stable and constant. As I faithfully applied these principles to myself in the environment I am currently in and thereby affect, results started to unravel. I know that they will do so for you, too. What is essential is that we have an awareness of these principles because we cannot choose something we do not know… And our life and the outcome thereof, is a result of the choices we make.
